Game Title: Alex Jones: NWO Wars

I am having similar issues as this guy: https://steamcommunity.com/app/2487350/discussions/0/4414172638913567971/

The game does not appear to start. Sometimes an error message comes up using certain versions of Proton, but usually I click launch and the game just never launches properly.

Proton Experimental --> game doesn't launch
Proton Hotfix --> game doesn't launch
Proton 9.0-3 ---> game doesn't launch
Proton 8.0-5 ---> game doesn't launch

When I try launching with Proton 7.0-6 I get the following error message appearing on screen:

Error
Failed to initialize player
Failed to initialize graphics.
Make sure you have DirectX 11 installed, have up to date
drivers for your graphics card and have not disabled
3D acceleration in display settings.
InitializeEngineGraphics failed

I tried every other version of Proton and got similar results... either the game doesn't launch, or an error message comes up. Sometimes a box appears on screen with a progress bar that says "Unity Player [...]" With a long string of text in place of the ellipsis that I can't copy down quickly enough because the box disappears, then the game again fails to launch.

System specs:
OS: Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS
Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
RAM: 32GB
SSD: 1TB
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
OS type: 64 bit
Gnome version: 46
X Window Manager: GNOME Shell
Kernel version: Linux 6.8.0-49-generic
GPU Driver: NVIDIA driver metapackage from nvidia-driver-550 (proprietary, tested)

The above GPU driver is what I find when I go to the "additional drivers" software on Ubuntu, to see what driver I'm using. When I go to the "help" menu in Steam, and click "system information" it gives me the following driver in the information:

Driver: Mesa llvmpipe (LLVM 17.0.6, 256 bits)
Driver Version: 4.5 (Compatibility Profile) Mesa 24.0.9-0ubuntu0.1

Hello @spaceshipdreams, Driver: Mesa llvmpipe (LLVM 17.0.6, 256 bits) is telling you that your NVIDIA driver install is most likely missing the driver's 32 bit userspace libraries and Steam is being forced to fallback to mesa's faster CPU renderer to run at all. The NVIDIA proprietary driver requires that the video driver's running kernel driver, 32 bit userspace libraries, and 64 bit userspace libraries are all installed and exactly the same version to work properly.

Install the libnvidia-gl-550:i386 system package and retest.

Install the libnvidia-gl-550:i386 system package and retest.

Can I do this by clicking "show apps" >> "additional drivers" on Ubuntu? And then doing something in that window that shows the different NVIDIA drivers?

Okay some people told me to type
sudo apt install libnvidia-gl-550:i386 in a terminal.

I did that, and the game works now, so I guess I'm all set. Thanks.

EDIT: An interesting side note... I used the "history 50" command in terminal to show me my previous terminal commands used because I thought this terminal command people suggested to fix this game issue looked familiar, and it actually was familiar! For some reason, I had put that terminal command into my system already in the past... but for some reason I guess putting it in again fixed things and I don't understand why. In any case... it works now so the issue is solved.
