Using @mail/quick is fine, but when we use the long form, @mail, an additional blank line is inserted before my text. So:
@mail oleo hope=Test
-This is a test.
I see in my log:
Mail: Write subject set
Mail: Write message started (2/65526).
Mail: You begin writing your new mail message.
Use '-' to add new text, '--' to send, '-~' to send anonymously.
Mail: Write line 2 added (18/65526)
If I now @mail/proof:

Message In Progress
Status: EDITING From: You
To: @oleo hope
Date/Time: Tue Apr 2 13:35:41 2024 Size: 19 Bytes
Subject: Test

This is a test.

There is a blank line I did not ask it to do in the text section.

With how the mail system works it needs to effectively 'inject' a line to start the buffering.

It's entirely a horse and Carrage issue and without a fairly significant rewrite I'm not entirely sure how to get around it.
