@sashakames making this as a place to put discussions about whether the citation info that we have compiled actually work with metagrid/ESGF.

You should be able to point at pages of the form https://raw.githubusercontent.com/PCMDI/input4MIPs_CVs/refs/heads/main/docs/source-id-landing-pages/{source_id}.json e.g. https://raw.githubusercontent.com/PCMDI/input4MIPs_CVs/refs/heads/main/docs/source-id-landing-pages/CR-CMIP-1-0-0.json. Those pages should have consistent names, but if it's possible, maybe add a check that the URL resolves on the metagrid side so we get told if there's an issue before users report it for us.
