From 7ca70708db2593039f6cf2c0d0f3b6502b440e8b Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Tranquil-Flow Date: Wed, 20 May 2026 16:58:27 +0200 Subject: [PATCH] fix(gateway): recover from stale PID file after SIGKILL/OOM (closes #13655) After a SIGKILL or OOM kill, atexit handlers never fire and gateway.pid is left behind with a dead PID. The next startup hits FileExistsError from the O_CREAT|O_EXCL write and exits with 'PID file race lost', even though no other gateway is running. The FileExistsError handler now reads the existing PID file and checks whether the recorded process is still alive. If the PID is stale, the file is force-unlinked and the write is retried. Only if the PID is confirmed alive (or a second race is lost) does the gateway exit. Tests: 12 new tests covering record parsing, stale detection, recovery, and double-race scenarios. --- gateway/run.py | 49 +++- tests/gateway/test_stale_pid_recovery.py | 280 +++++++++++++++++++++++ 2 files changed, 324 insertions(+), 5 deletions(-) create mode 100644 tests/gateway/test_stale_pid_recovery.py diff --git a/gateway/run.py b/gateway/run.py index cca9901cb4263..c6eaad53e8b85 100644 --- a/gateway/run.py +++ b/gateway/run.py @@ -18048,7 +18048,14 @@ def restart_signal_handler(): # Telegram polling, Discord gateway sockets, etc. The loser exits # cleanly before touching any external service. import atexit - from gateway.status import write_pid_file, remove_pid_file, get_running_pid + from gateway.status import ( + write_pid_file, + remove_pid_file, + get_running_pid, + _get_pid_path, + _read_pid_record, + _pid_exists, + ) _current_pid = get_running_pid() if _current_pid is not None and _current_pid != os.getpid(): logger.error( @@ -18064,11 +18071,43 @@ def restart_signal_handler(): try: write_pid_file() except FileExistsError: - release_gateway_runtime_lock() - logger.error( - "PID file race lost to another gateway instance.
