It would give a sense of direction and completion as the words fly by. Also, it would give the reader a chance to pause when a figure/table/image etc appears in view.

I think that speed-reading is best used for reading simple wall-of-text pages. Already texts that contain complex definitions or equations or special formatting or even lists are pretty difficult to process as they require a different mode of thinking. Even more so with images, diagrams etc.. I wouldn't mix them.
