Not sure about the meaning of "Interaction buttons shown even when unsupported by the current backend".
In my case, I have a misskey account and use kaiteki on android.
If I tap on a post from another misskey user, the post opens and I can see others interactions on that post.
If the post is from a mastodon user, the post won't even open when tapping on it.
Is this the bug you refer to?

"interaction buttons" are buttons that trigger interactions such as repeating, favoriting, replying, etc.

In my case

it seems that FireFish is not already supported so, the star button appears but doesn't work, if you are here bc of that, then this is the issue where is reported.
