I'm still trying to determine if exporting to VTK will be useful for my project. If I do go down this road, I'd be happy to send a PR.

I'm not very familiar with Paraview/VTK - Is it possible to export a VTK mesh with per-vertex or per-face colors? It seems like the Interfacing with GeometryTypes section is referring to importing from VTK into Julia, but not the other way around. Am I understanding that correctly?

Yes. GeometryTypes is used mostly for visualisation.
