gnome-shell-extensions-mediaplayer can be easily configured through http://extensions.gnome.org, Tweak Tool, or the command-line gnome-shell-extension-prefs tool.

• Indicator status text template:

  The status template text can be formatted with the Pango markup syntax. Placeholders will be replaced with the actual value of the playing track.

  Placeholders:

  {playerName} {trackAlbum} {trackArtist} {trackTitle} {trackPosition} {trackDuration}

  For example if the song is Walk by Pantera from Vulgar Display of Power and your player is Rhythmbox and you wanted the panel to read "Rhythmbox: Walk by Pantera from Vulgar Display of Power" the template would be:

  {playerName}: {trackTitle} by {trackArtist} from {trackAlbum}
