This is a meta issue created to track issues related to multi-lingual content in Drupal and Fedora. Please refer to this issue in any subsequent issues to link them.

@Natkeeran has already done some investigation into these matters and has documented his results.

We should take a closer look at how we want multi-lingual content to be handled at both the Drupal and Fedora layers and try to develop a best practice approach that we can suggest through documentation.

All major goals we initially set forward have been addressed in the 1.0 release including the following:

  • multi-language repository, UI translations (provided by Drupal; enabled, configured, documented in Islandora 8)
  • language independent canonical uris (opaque uris)
  • using language tags to differentiate multilingual literal values in Drupal, Fedora, Triplestore
  • documentation

The above provide core support for create, edit and query multilingual linked data in a user friendly way. Thus, we can consider this meta issue to be completed.
