@ndr-qef @rolandwalker any thoughts:

now that Google Refine is known as Open Refine, should we rename https://github.com/caskroom/homebrew-cask/blob/master/Casks/google-refine.rb to open-refine.rb?

They have been saying they will re-brand since the Cask was added in #1823. However, the app is still called "Google Refine.app".

We generally dismiss branding in favor of internal consistency, always basing casks on application names.

An exception would be made if the Open Refine beta was "canonical", i.e. recognized by its users as the main release. In that case, the beta release would supersede the stable version in our main repository, and the cask would be renamed accordingly.

Right. When that happens, open-refine.rb will move into the main repo.

ah i see, thanks. the impetus for my asking was a failed cask search for "openrefine".

just curious, is there some way to alias a cask with a secondary name so that a search for open[-]refine returns a match on google-refine? i did a search on the Cask Naming reference and on Google but didn't see anything.

Not quite yet. You are right that there is a problematic mismatch between the cask names established by our rules and the common names in actual usage.

Our first solution will be to introduce alias-like functionality with the tags stanza; specifically, the :name tag can be used to provide additional names (see #6509). Such names are currently inert, but will be used by brew cask search in the future.
