Exporting csv causes browser to become unresponsive and takes a long time to produce the csv file

On the IT standards page, if a user selects the export data icon at the top right, then chooses CSV or the MS-Excel option (it may be on other formats as well), the browser freezes as it attempts to export the data and it causes unresponsive alerts to pop up to the user. It then takes over a minute to even start the csv download. The csv download itself happens very quickly -- it's the processing time to export it that takes a long time.
