The Bird appliance is based on tinycore linux. The last tinycore version, that supports bird is V9.x from 2018, so it's not possible to simply update. The Bird appliance must be created from scratch based on another Linux OS. Furthermore in https://trubka.network.cz/pipermail/bird-users/2023-April/016874.html the BIRD project announces, that BIRD 1 gets EOL Dec 31, 2023.
So I'm going to create a new BIRD2 appliance based on Debian:bookworm as soon it is released (2023-06-10). This old BIRD1 appliance can be deleted, when it gets EOL end of 2023.
PR #853 adds an EOL message to the usage instructions of the BIRDv1 appliance.
I suggest to wait some months to give users a chance to read it, then delete this old appliance. Maybe the new BIRD2 appliance can then renamed to BIRD,
