The username space is very crowded on wordpress.com. We can suggest a username for a user based on their site name but the chances are they will want to change it.
Rather than ask users for a username, we could ask them for a display name. We can use the display name (or site url) to generate a username users can change later if they want. This would solve the problems in finding an available username, and address a common support request, “how do I change my display name?”.
